The Parkhill Estate holds the honour of being the largest listed building in Europe, and it’s partial development shortlisted for a RIBA award in 2013, with the rest of the estate either being secured and unoccupied or tenanted. This challenging landscape, the responsibility of Sheffield City Council in part and Urban Splash elsewhere was the perfect backdrop for a site specific installation by National Youth Theatre. The installation contained a promenade piece spanning the length of the estate, a production managed by ourselves.

Balancing the expectations of the estate stakeholders, whilst honouring the creative remit of the 4 directors required clear and constructive communication, the ability to find compromise in any situation and an unerring vision of the final production. Working with a combination of industry professionals, and managing a large group of trainees, the lighting, sound and set was installed over a week, to allow for final rehearsals to happen site before the event was opened to 300 people at a time.

"It's fantastic for a journey to take a promenade audience through some of the corridors."  BBC News
